The Scorpion and the Frog - Story
Original story (traditionally attributed to Aesop, who was born more than 2600 years ago) is written, and then coming back to this initial part, where the story is rewritten with a new attitude to life.
=== The Scorpion and the Frog (years later…) ===
A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The scorpion carries a little green apple.
The frog asks, “How do I know you won’t sting me?”
The scorpion says, “Because if I do, I will die too, as we will sink together”
“Can you leave the apple here? The weight may be too much!” the frog says.
“Sorry, I cannot, this apple is as important as my life” replies the scorpion.
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream the scorpion puts the apple on the head of the frog.
The frog feels the weight on its head and starts sinking a little bit and, with the corner of the eye, sees the scorpion stinging the apple again and again and again.
“What are you doing?!?!” asks the frog knowing that they both risk drowning, but because the scorpion doesn’t stop at all, the frog shouts with bubbles coming out from its mouth “Stop it now, crazy freak!”
When they arrive to the other side of the river, the tired frog asks “Why?”
Replies the scorpion: “It’s my nature to sting, but my brother drowned here with a frog a while ago, and I don’t want to end up like that. I cannot stop myself stinging, but better to sting this apple than you”.

छठ पर्व या छठ कार्तिक शुक्ल की षष्ठी को मनाया जाने वाला एक हिन्दू पर्व है। सूर्योपासना का यह अनुपम लोकपर्व मुख्य रूप से पूर्वी भारत के बिहार, झारखण्ड, पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश और नेपाल के तराई क्षेत्रों में मनाया जाता है। प्रायः हिंदुओं द्वारा मनाए जाने वाले इस पर्व को इस्लाम सहित अन्य धर्मावलंवी भी मनाते देखे गए हैं।[1]
नामकरणEdit
छठ पर्व छठ, षष्टी का अपभ्रंश है। कार्तिक मास की अमावस्या को दीवाली मनाने के तुरंत बाद मनाए जाने वाले इस चार दिवसिए व्रत की सबसे कठिन और महत्वपूर्ण रात्रि कार्तिक शुक्ल सष्ठी की होती है। इसी कारण इस व्रत का नामकरण छठ व्रत हो गया।

लोक आस्थाका पर्व - छठEdit
हमारे देशमें सूर्योपासनाके लिए प्रसिद्ध पर्व है छठ । मूलत: सूर्य षष्ठी व्रत होनेके कारण इसे छठ कहा गया है । यह पर्व वर्षमें दो बार मनाया जाता है । पहली बार चैत्रमें और दूसरी बार कार्तिकमें । चैत्र शुक्लपक्ष षष्ठीपर मनाए जानेवाले छठ पर्वको चैती छठ व कार्तिक शुक्लपक्ष षष्ठीपर मनाए जानेवाले पर्वको कार्तिकी छठ कहा जाता है । पारिवारिक सुख-स्मृद्धि तथा मनोवांछित फलप्राप्तिके लिए यह पर्व मनाया जाता है । इस पर्वको स्त्री और पुरुष समानरूपसे मनाते हैं । छठ व्रतके संबंधमें अनेक कथाएं प्रचलित हैं; उनमेंसे एक कथाके अनुसार जब पांडव अपना सारा राजपाट जुएमें हार गए, तब द्रौपदीने छठ व्रत रखा । तब उसकी मनोकामनाएं पूरी हुईं तथा पांडवोंको राजपाट वापस मिल गया । लोकपरंपराके अनुसार सूर्य देव और छठी मइयाका संबंध भाई-बहनका है । लोक मातृका षष्ठीकी पहली पूजा सूर्यने ही की थी । छठ पर्वकी परंपरामें बहुत ही गहरा विज्ञान छिपा हुआ है, षष्ठी तिथि (छठ) एक विशेष खगौलीय अवसर है । उस समय सूर्यकी पराबैगनी किरणें (ultra violet rays) पृथ्वीकी सतहपर सामान्यसे अधिक मात्रामें एकत्र हो जाती हैं । उसके संभावित कुप्रभावोंसे मानवकी यथासंभव रक्षा करनेका सामर्थ्य इस परंपरामें है । पर्वपालनसे सूर्य (तारा) प्रकाश (पराबैगनी किरण) के हानिकारक प्रभावसे जीवोंकी रक्षा संभव है । पृथ्वीके जीवोंको इससे बहुत लाभ मिल सकता है । सूर्यके प्रकाशके साथ उसकी पराबैगनी किरण भी चंद्रमा और पृथ्वीपर आती हैं । सूर्यका प्रकाश जब पृथ्वीपर पहुंचता है, तो पहले उसे वायुमंडल मिलता है । वायुमंडलमें प्रवेश करनेपर उसे आयन मंडल मिलता है । पराबैगनी किरणोंका उपयोग कर वायुमंडल अपने ऑक्सीजन तत्त्वको संश्लेषित कर उसे उसके एलोट्रोप ओजोनमें बदल देता है । इस क्रियाद्वारा सूर्यकी पराबैगनी किरणोंका अधिकांश भाग पृथ्वीके वायुमंडलमें ही अवशोषित हो जाता है । पृथ्वीकी सतहपर केवल उसका नगण्य भाग ही पहुंच पाता है । सामान्य अवस्थामें पृथ्वीकी सतहपर पहुंचनेवाली पराबैगनी किरणकी मात्रा मनुष्यों या जीवोंके सहन करनेकी सीमामें होती है । अत: सामान्य अवस्थामें मनुष्योंपर उसका कोई विशेष हानिकारक प्रभाव नहीं पडता, बल्कि उस धूपद्वारा हानिकारक कीटाणु मर जाते हैं, जिससे मनुष्य या जीवनको लाभ ही होता है । छठ जैसी खगौलीय स्थिति (चंद्रमा और पृथ्वीके भ्रमण तलोंकी सम रेखाके दोनों छोरोंपर) सूर्यकी पराबैगनी किरणें कुछ चंद्र सतहसे परावर्तित तथा कुछ गोलीय अपवर्तित होती हुई, पृथ्वीपर पुन: सामान्यसे अधिक मात्रामें पहुंच जाती हैं । वायुमंडलके स्तरोंसे आवर्तित होती हुई, सूर्यास्त तथा सूर्योदयको यह और भी सघन हो जाती है । ज्योतिषीय गणनाके अनुसार यह घटना कार्तिक तथा चैत्र मासकी अमावस्याके छ: दिन उपरांत आती है । ज्योतिषीय गणनापर आधारित होनेके कारण इसका नाम और कुछ नहीं, बल्कि छठ पर्व ही रखा गया है ।
छठ पर्व किस प्रकार मनाते हैं ?Edit
यह पर्व चार दिनोंका है । भैयादूज के तीसरे दिनसे यह आरंभ होता है । पहले दिन सैंधा नमक, घी से बना हुआ अरवा चावल और कद्दूकी सब्जी प्रसाद के रूप में ली जाती है । अगले दिनसे उपवास आरंभ होता है । इस दिन रात में खीर बनती है । व्रतधारी रात में यह प्रसाद लेते हैं । तीसरे दिन डूबते हुए सूर्य को अर्घ्य यानी दूध अर्पण करते हैं । अंतिम दिन उगते हुए सूर्य को अर्घ्य चढ़ाते हैं । इस पूजा में पवित्रता का ध्यान रखा जाता है; लहसून, प्याज वर्ज्य है । जिन घरों में यह पूजा होती है, वहां भक्तिगीत गाए जाते हैं । आजकल कुछ नई रीतियां भी आरंभ हो गई हैं, जैसे पंडाल और सूर्यदेवता की मूर्ति की स्थापना करना । उसपर भी रोषनाई पर काफी खर्च होता है और सुबह के अर्घ्यके उपरांत आयोजनकर्ता माईक पर चिल्लाकर प्रसाद मांगते हैं । पटाखे भी जलाए जाते हैं । कहीं-कहीं पर तो ऑर्केस्ट्राका भी आयोजन होता है; परंतु साथ ही साथ दूध, फल, उदबत्ती भी बांटी जाती है । पूजा की तैयारी के लिए लोग मिलकर पूरे रास्ते की सफाई करते हैं ।
उत्सव का स्वरूपEdit
छठ पूजा चार दिवसीय उत्सव है। इसकी शुरुआत कार्तिक शुक्ल चतुर्थी को तथा समाप्ति कार्तिक शुक्ल सप्तमी को होती है। इस दौरान व्रतधारी लगातार 36 घंटे का व्रत रखते हैं। इस दौरान वे पानी भी ग्रहण नहीं करते।
नहाय खायEdit
पहला दिन कार्तिक शुक्ल चतुर्थी ‘नहाय-खाय’ के रूप में मनाया जाता है। सबसे पहले घर की सफाइ कर उसे पवित्र बना लिया जाता है। इसके पश्चात छठव्रती स्नान कर पवित्र तरीके से बने शुद्ध शाकाहारी भोजन ग्रहण कर व्रत की शुरुआत करते हैं। घर के सभी सदस्य व्रती के भोजनोपरांत ही भोजन ग्रहण करते हैं। भोजन के रूप में कद्दू-दाल और चावल ग्रहण किया जाता है। यह दाल चने की होती है।
लोहंडा और खरनाEdit
दूसरे दिन कार्तीक शुक्ल पंचमी को व्रतधारी दिन भर का उपवास रखने के बाद शाम को भोजन करते हैं। इसे ‘खरना’ कहा जाता है। खरना का प्रसाद लेने के लिए आस-पास के सभी लोगों को निमंत्रित किया जाता है। प्रसाद के रूप में गन्ने के रस में बने हुए चावल की खीर के साथ दूध, चावल का पिट्ठा और घी चुपड़ी रोटी बनाई जाती है। इसमें नमक या चीनी का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता है। इस दौरान पूरे घर की स्वच्छता का विशेष ध्यान रखा जाता है।
संध्या अर्घ्यEdit
तीसरे दिन कार्तिक शुक्ल षष्ठी को दिन में छठ प्रसाद बनाया जाता है। प्रसाद के रूप में ठेकुआ, जिसे कुछ क्षेत्रों में टिकरी भी कहते हैं, के अलावा चावल के लड्डू, जिसे लड़ुआ भी कहा जाता है, बनाते हैं। इसके अलावा चढ़ावा के रूप में लाया गया साँचा और फल भी छठ प्रसाद के रूप में शामिल होता है।
शाम को पूरी तैयारी और व्यवस्था कर बाँस की टोकरी में अर्घ्य का सूप सजाया जाता है और व्रति के साथ परिवार तथा पड़ोस के सारे लोग अस्ताचलगामी सूर्य को अर्घ्य देने घाट की ओर चल पड़ते हैं। सभी छठव्रती एक नीयत तालाब या नदी किनारे इकट्ठा होकर सामूहिक रूप से अर्घ्य दान संपन्न करते हैं। सूर्य को जल और दूध का अर्घ्य दिया जाता है तथा छठी मैया की प्रसाद भरे सूप से पूजा की जाती है। इस दौरान कुछ घंटे के लिए मेले का दृश्य बन जाता है।
उषा अर्घ्यEdit
चौथे दिन कार्तिक शुक्ल सप्तमी की सुबह उदियमान सूर्य को अघ्र्य दिया जाता है। ब्रती वहीं पुनः इक्ट्ठा होते हैं जहाँ उन्होंने शाम को अर्घ्य दिया था। पुनः पिछले शाम की प्रक्रिया की पुनरावृत्ति होती है। अंत में व्रति कच्चे दूध का शरबत पीकर तथा थोड़ा प्रसाद खाकर व्रत पूर्ण करते हैं।
व्रतEdit
छठ उत्सव के केंद्र में छठ व्रत है जो एक कठिन तपस्या की तरह है। यह प्रायः महिलाओं द्वारा किया जाता है किंतु कुछ पुरुष भी यह व्रत रखते हैं। व्रत रखने वाली महिला को परवैतिन भी कहा जाता है। चार दिनों के इस व्रत में व्रती को लगातार उपवास करना होता है। भोजन के साथ ही सुखद शैय्या का भी त्याग किया जाता है। पर्व के लिए बनाए गए कमरे में व्रती फर्श पर एक कंबल या चादर के सहारे ही रात बिताई जाती है। इस उत्सव में शामिल होने वाले लोग नए कपड़े पहनते हैं। पर व्रती ऐसे कपड़े पहनते हैं, जिनमें किसी प्रकार की सिलाई नहीं की होती है। महिलाएं साड़ी और पुरुष धोती पहनकर छठ करते हैं। ‘शुरू करने के बाद छठ पर्व को सालोंसाल तब तक करना होता है, जब तक कि अगली पीढ़ी की किसी विवाहित महिला को इसके लिए तैयार न कर लिया जाए। घर में किसी की मृत्यु हो जाने पर यह पर्व नहीं मनाया जाता है।’
ऐसी मान्यता है कि छठ पर्व पर व्रत करने वाली महिलाओं को पुत्र रत्न की प्राप्ति होती है। पुत्र की चाहत रखने वाली और पुत्र की कुशलता के लिए सामान्य तौर पर महिलाएं यह व्रत रखती हैं। किंतु पुरुष भी यह व्रत पूरी निष्ठा से रखते हैं।
सूर्य पूजा का संदर्भEdit
छठ पर्व मूलतः सूर्य की आराधना का पर्व है, जिसे हिंदू धर्म में विशेष स्थान प्राप्त है। हिंदू धर्म के देवताओं में सूर्य ऐसे देवता हैं जिन्हें मूर्त रूप में देखा जा सकता है।
सूर्य की शक्तियों का मुख्य श्रोत उनकी पत्नी ऊषा और प्रत्यूषा हैं। छठ में सूर्य के साथ-साथ दोनों शक्तियों की संयुक्त आराधना होती है। प्रात:काल में सूर्य की पहली किरण (ऊषा) और सायंकाल में सूर्य की अंतिम किरण (प्रत्यूषा) को अघ्र्य देकर दोनों का नमन किया जाता है।
सूर्योपासना की परंपराEdit
भारत में सूर्योपासना ऋग वैदिक काल से होती आ रही है। सूर्य और इसकी उपासना की चर्चा विष्णु पुराण, भगवत पुराण, ब्रह्मा वैवर्त पुराण आदि में विस्तार से की गई है। मध्य काल तक छठ सूर्योपासना के व्यवस्थित पर्व के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हो गया, जो अभी तक चला आ रहा है। तालाब में पूजा करते हैं।
देवता के रूप मेंEdit
सृष्टि और पालन शक्ति के कारण सूर्य की उपासना सभ्यता के विकास के साथ विभिन्न स्थानों पर अलग-अलग रूप में प्रारंभ हो गई, लेकिन देवता के रूप में सूर्य की वंदना का उल्लेख पहली बार ऋगवेद में मिलता है। इसके बाद अन्य सभी वेदों के साथ ही उपनिषद आदि वैदिक ग्रंथों में इसकी चर्चा प्रमुखता से हुई है। निरुक्त के रचियता यास्क ने द्युस्थानीय देवताओं में सूर्य को पहले स्थान पर रखा है।
मानवीय रूप की कल्पनाEdit
उत्तर वैदिक काल के अंतिम कालखंड में सूर्य के मानवीय रूप की कल्पना होने लगी। इसने कालांतर में सूर्य की मूर्ति पूजा का रूप ले लिया। पौराणिक काल आते-आते सूर्य पूजा का प्रचलन और अधिक हो गया। अनेक स्थानों पर सूर्य देव के मंदिर भी बनाए गए।
आरोग्य देवता के रूप मेंEdit
पौराणिक काल में सूर्य को आरोग्य देवता भी माना जाने लगा था। सूर्य की किरणों में कई रोगों को नष्ट करने की क्षमता पाई गई। ऋषि-मुनियों ने अपने अनुसंधान के क्रम में किसी खास दिन इसका प्रभाव विशेष पाया। संभवत: यही छठ पर्व के उद्भव की बेला रही हो। भगवान कृष्ण के पौत्र शाम्ब को कुष्ठ हो गया था। इस रोग से मुक्ति के लिए विशेष सूर्योपासना की गई, जिसके लिए शाक्य द्वीप से ब्राह्मणों को बुलाया गया था।
पौराणिक और लोक कथाएँEdit
छठ पूजा की परंपरा और उसके महत्व का प्रतिपादन करने वाली अनेक पौराणिक और लोक कथाएँ प्रचलित हैं।
रामायण सेEdit
एक मान्यता के अनुसार लंका विजय के बाद रामराज्य की स्थापना के दिन कार्तिक शुक्ल षष्ठी को भगवान राम और माता सीता ने उपवास किया और सूर्यदेव की आराधना की। सप्तमी को सूर्योदय के समय पुनः अनुष्ठान कर सूर्यदेव से आशिर्वाद प्राप्त कियाथा।
महाभारत सेEdit
एक अन्य मान्यता के अनुसार छठ पर्व की शुरुआत महाभारत काल में हुई थी। सबसे पहले सूर्य पुत्र कर्ण ने सूर्य देव की पूजा शुरू की। कर्ण भगवान सूर्य का परम भक्त था। वह प्रतिदिन घंटों कमर तक पानी में ख़ड़े होकर सूर्य को अर्घ्य देता था। सूर्य की कृपा से ही वह महान योद्धा बना था। आज भी छठ में अर्घ्य दान की यही पद्धति प्रचलित है।
कुछ कथाओं में पांडवों की पत्नी द्रोपदी द्वारा भी सूर्य की पूजा करने का उल्लेख है। वे अपने परिजनों के उत्तम स्वास्थ्य की कामना और लंबी उम्र के लिए नियमित सूर्य पूजा करती थीं।
पुराणों सेEdit
एक कथा के अनुसार राजा प्रियवद को कोई संतान नहीं थी, तब महर्षि कश्यप ने पुत्रेष्टि यज्ञ कराकर उनकी पत्नी मालिनी को यज्ञाहुति के लिए बनाई गई खीर दी। इसके प्रभाव से उन्हें पुत्र हुआ परंतु वह मृत पैदा हुआ। प्रियवद पुत्र को लेकर श्मशान गए और पुत्र वियोग में प्राण त्यागने लगे। उसी वक्त भगवान की मानस कन्या देवसेना प्रकट हुई और कहा कि सृष्टि की मूल प्रवृत्ति के छठे अंश से उत्पन्न होने के कारण मैं षष्ठी कहलाती हूं। राजन तुम मेरा पूजन करो तथा और लोगों को भी प्रेरित करो। राजा ने पुत्र इच्छा से देवी षष्ठी का व्रत किया और उन्हें पुत्र रत्न की प्राप्ति हुई। यह पूजा कार्तिक शुक्ल षष्ठी को हुई थी।
सामाजिक/सांस्कृतिक महत्वEdit
छठ पूजा का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पक्ष इसकी सादगी पवित्रता और लोकपक्ष है। भक्ति और आध्यात्म से परिपूर्ण इस पर्व के लिए न विशाल पंडालों और भव्य मंदिरों की जरूरत होती है न ऐश्वर्य युक्त मूर्तियों की। बिजली के लट्टुओं की चकाचौंध, पटाखों के धमाके और लाउडस्पीकर के शोर से दूर यह पर्व बाँस निर्मित सूप, टोकरी, मिट्टी के बरतनों, गन्ने के रस, गुड़, चावल और गेहूँ से निर्मित प्रसाद, और सुमधुर लोकगीतों से युक्त होकर लोक जीवन की भरपूर मिठास का प्रसार करता है।
शास्त्रों से अलग यह जन सामान्य द्वारा अपने रीति-रिवाजों के रंगों में गढ़ी गई उपासना पद्धति है। इसके केंद्र में वेद, पुराण जैसे धर्मग्रंथ न होकर किसान और ग्रामीण जीवन है। इस व्रत के लिए न विशेष धन की आवश्यकता है न पुरोहित या गुरु के अभ्यर्थअना की। जरूरत पड़ती है तो पास-पड़ोस के साथकी जो अपनी सेवा के लिए सहर्ष और कृतज्ञतापूर्वक प्रस्तुत रहता है। इस उत्सव के लिए जनता स्वयं अपने सामूहिक अभियान संगठित करती है। नगरों की सफाइ, व्रतियों के गुजरने वाले रास्तों का प्रबंधन, तालाव या नदी किनारे अर्घ्य दान की उपयुक्त व्यवस्था के लिए समाज सरकार के सहायता की राह नहीं देखता। इस उत्सव में खरना के उत्सव से लेकर अर्ध्यदान तक समाज की अनिवार्य उपस्थिति बनी रहती है। यह सामान्य और गरीब जनता के अपने दैनिक जीवन की मुश्किलों को भुलाकर सेवा भाव और भक्ति भाव से किए गए सामूहिक कर्म का विराट और भव्य प्रदर्शन है।
छठ गीतEdit
लोकपर्व छठ के विभिन्न अवसरों पर जैसे प्रसाद बनाते समय, खरना के समय, अर्घ्य देने के लिए जाते हुए, अर्घ्य दान के समय और घाट से घर लौटते समय अनेकों सुमधुर और भक्ति भाव से पूर्ण लोकगीत गाए जाते हैं।

छठ पूजा के काल में घाट
दीपावली के छठे दिन से शुरू होने वाला छठ का पर्व चार दिनों तक चलता है। इन चारों दिन श्रद्धालु भगवान सूर्य की आराधना करके वर्षभर सुखी, स्वस्थ और निरोगी होने की कामना करते हैं। चार दिनों के इस पर्व के पहले दिन घर की साफ-सफाई की जाती है।

Chhath (Devanagari: छठ, छठी, छठ पर्व, छठ पुजा, डाला छठ, डाला पुजा, सुर्य षष्ठी) is an ancient Hindu festival and only Vedic Festival dedicated to the Hindu Sun God, Surya.[2] The Chhath Puja is performed in order to thank Surya for sustaining life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes.[3]
The Sun, considered the god of energy and of the life-force, is worshiped during the Chhath festival to promote well-being, prosperity and progress. In Hinduism, Sun worship is believed to help cure a variety of diseases, including leprosy, and helps ensure the longevity and prosperity of family members, friends, and elders.
The rituals of the festival are rigorous and are observed over a period of four days. They include holy bathing, fasting and abstaining from drinking water (Vratta), standing in water for long periods of time, and offering prashad (prayer offerings) and arghya to the setting and rising sun.
Although it is observed most elaborately in Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern UP and the Terai regions of Nepal in modern times, and is more prevalent in areas where migrants from those areas have a presence, it is celebrated in all regions and major urban centers in India. The festival is celebrated in the regions including but not exclusive to the northeast region of India, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat,[4] Delhi,[5] Mumbai[6] Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, and Jamaica. .[7]

It is believed that the Maga Purohits (modern days known as Shakya Dwipi Brahmins) were invited by local kings for their expertise in Sun worshiping. They started the tradition of Chhat Puja.
It is believed that the ritual of Chhath puja may even predate the ancient Vedas texts, as the Rigveda contains hymns worshiping the Sun god and describes similar rituals. The rituals also find reference in the Sanskrit epic poem Mahābhārata in which Draupadi is depicted as observing similar rites.
In the poem, Draupadi and the Pandavas, rulers of Hastinapur (modern Delhi), performed the Chhath ritual on the advice of noble sage Dhaumya. Through her worship of the Sun God, Draupadi was not only able to solve her immediate problems, but also helped the Pandavas later regain their lost kingdom.
It is also believed that Chhath was started by Karna, the son of Surya (Surya Putra Karna). Surya Putra Karna ruled over the Anga Desh (present day Bhagalpur district of Bihar) during the Mahabharat Age. He was a great warrior and fought against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War.
Its yogic/scientific history dates back to the Vedic times. The rishis of yore used this method to remain without any external intake of food as they were able to obtain energy directly from the sun's rays. This was done through the Chhath method.[10]
Chhathi MaiyaEdit
It is also said that the Goddess that is worshipped during the famous Chhath Puja is known as Chhathi Maiya. Chhathi Maiya is known as Usha in the Vedas. She is believed to be the consort of Surya, the sun god. Some scholars are of the view that she is only the beloved of Surya and some suggest that she is Surya’s wife.
Usha is the term used to refer to dawn – The first light of day. But in the Rig Veda she has more symbolic meaning. Symbolically Usha is the dawn of divine consciousness in the individual aspirant. It is said - Usha and Pratyusha, wives of Sun are the main source of Sun. Both Usha and Pratyusha are worshiped along with Sun in chhath parva. Usha (literally-the first morning sun-ray) is worshipped on the last day and Pratyusha(the last sun-ray of day) is worshipped in the evening by offering water or milk to the rising and setting sun respectively.
During the Chhath Puja, Chhathi Maiya is invoked to bless us with this divine consciousness which will help us to overcome all the troubles in the world – this bless will help us to Moksha or liberation.
Rituals and traditionsEdit
Chhath is a festival of bathing and worshipping,that follows a period of abstinence and segregation of the worshiper from the main household for four days. During this period, the worshiper observes purity, and sleeps on the floor on a single blanket.This is the only holy festival which has no involvement of any pandit (priest).The devotees offer their prayers to the setting sun, and then the rising sun in celebrating its glory as the cycle of birth starts with death. It is seen as the most glorious form of Sun worship.
Nahay khay
On the first day of Chhath Puja, the devotees take a dip, preferably in the river Ganga and carry home the holy water of Ganga to prepare the offerings. The house and surroundings are scrupulously cleaned. The ladies observing the Vrata called vratin allow themselves only one meal on this day.
Lohanda and Kharna
On the second day of Chhath Puja, the day before Chhath, the Vratins observe a fast for the whole day, which ends in the evening a little after sunset. Just after the worship of Sun and moon , the offerings of Rasiao-kheer (rice delicacy), puris (deep-fried puffs of wheat flour) and bananas, are distributed among family and friends. The Vratins go on a fast without water for 36 hours after 2nd day evening prashad(kheer).
Sandhya Arghya (evening offerings)
This day is spent preparing the prasad (offerings)at home. On the eve of this day, the entire household accompanies the Vratins to a riverbank, pond or a common large water body to make the offerings (Arghya) to the setting sun. It is during this phase of Chhath Puja that the devotees offer prayers to the just setting sun. The occasion is almost a carnival. Besides the Vratins, there are friends and family, and numerous participants and onlookers, all willing to help and receive the blessings of the worshipper. The folk songs sung on the evening of Chhath.
Usha Arghya (morning offerings)
On the final day of Chhath Puja, the devotees, along with family and friends, go to the riverbank before sunrise, in order to make the offerings (Arghya) to the rising sun. The festival ends with the breaking of the fast by the Vratins. Friends, Relatives visit the houses of the devotees to receive the prashad.
The main worshipers, called Parvaitin (from Sanskrit parv, meaning 'occasion' or 'festival'), are usually women. However, a large number of men also observe this festival. The parvaitin pray for the well-being of their family, and for the prosperity of their offsprings. Once a family starts performing Chhatt Puja, it is their duty to perform it every year and to pass it on to the following generations. The festival is skipped only if there happens to be a death in the family that year.
The prasad offerings include sweets, Kheer, Thekua and fruit offered in small bamboo soop winnows. The food is strictly vegetarian and it is cooked without salt, onions or garlic. Emphasis is put on maintaining the purity of the food.

Change Yourself ; Make A Better Life

Have you ever wondered: What can I do to improve my life right now?
Sometimes a few small changes can have a profound effect on the way we experience life. With that in mind, I invite you to consider the following:
1. Make the choice to be happy. The biggest part of being happy is to simply make up your mind to be a happy person. It’s not about circumstances, it’s about choice.
2. Count your blessings every day. We all have blessings in our lives. Take the time each and every day to appreciate yours, and your view of life will be one of gratitude.
3. Let go of negative thoughts. Don’t poison yourself by dwelling on negative thoughts. Your life reflects your dominate thought patterns, make yours positive.
4. Let go of negative people. Like it or not, your attitude is susceptible to the dominate attitude of those around you. If they are negative, let them go and don’t look back.
5. Be considerate of others. Showing consideration is a way of honoring others. Most people will respond in kind. When you honor others, you honor yourself.
6. Get regular exercise. We all need to move and breath. Too much sitting robs you of the sense of being alive. Buy out time for exercise and you will feel better mentally, emotionally, and physically.
7. Keep learning new things. Learning is what keeps us excited about life. Your mind has an almost infinite ability to take in knowledge. Feed your head.
8. Smile at everyone. A smile can light up a single heart, or a whole room. It’s a wonderful free gift you can give to anyone who looks your way. Contribute to the bank of happiness, smile.
9. Be polite. Manners create an atmosphere of mutual respect and goodwill. Rudeness reveals a complete lack of character. It’s right to be polite and crude to be rude.
10. Practice listening. If we are really listening we will always hear more than words. Try to hear the meaning behind the words without presuming you already know.
11. Build others up. Life can be pretty hard at times and a little encouragement from you can help others feel more confident and capable. Help them out when you can.
12. Find reasons to laugh. With the right attitude we can find humor almost everywhere. Laughter is powerful medicine, so laugh often.
13. Be completely honest. Honesty comes from within. It takes humility and courage to be totally honest with ourselves and others. It’s also incredibly liberating.
14. Be tactful. Being honest does not mean being brutal, even with yourself. Don’t needlessly offend others in the name of honesty, use tact and diplomacy.
15. Look for way to practice giving. There are hundreds of ways to give, and ample opportunities for giving. Not only can something as simple as a smile or kind word can change somebody else’s whole day, but their response can change yours.
16. Be creative. This would be a good place to add your own tip for improving your life right now. Go ahead, be creative!
17. Watch for cause and effect. What you do and say has a huge impact on your life. It is in your best interest to become aware of the connection. Notice the effect of your words and actions so you can make any needed adjustments.
18. View your mistakes as learning experiences. In new activities, it’s rare that we get it right the first time. Evaluating our results and adjusting our approach is how we learn. The better we get at this process the quicker we will produce our intended result.
19. Challenge yourself with large and small goals. Goals give us something to focus on. They also provide a sense of purpose and direction. But remember, you can’t achieve a goal you haven’t set. So, set goals in every area of life.
20. Stop comparing yourself to others.You are not them, so there is no basis for comparison. Strive to be the best possible version of yourself, and learn to celebrate your individuality.
21. Stop judging others. We rarely have as much insight into another persons life as we think we do. If they do something you don’t approve of, judge the act, not the person.
22. Eliminate time wasters from your life. We all want more time, and yet we all waste time on meaningless pursuits. Get rid of them and you will have the time you wished for.
23. Don’t turn everything into a big deal. If you turn little issues into big issues it will rob you of your joy. Give yourself and everyone else a break, learn to let it go.
24. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Learn to laugh at yourself, it’s liberating. When we take ourselves too seriously life becomes a struggle. Again, let it go.
25. Avoid self-imposed limits. Strike all limiting words from your vocabulary, and limiting thoughts from your mind. You can do almost anything you set your mind to, so don’t allow self-imposed limits to hold you back.
26. Don’t try to control other people. Your example may influence others, but you cannot control them. They have the same freedom of choice that you have. Respect that.
27. Actively show appreciation. When someone does something nice for you, show them some appreciation. Acts of kindness, large and small, deserve recognition.
28. Use applied focus sessions to get more done. Applied Focus Sessions – a simple strategy that can increase productivity and free time. Give it a try, it works.
29. Take breaks to clear your mind. You will accomplish more, be more focused, and experience less stress if you give your brain periodic “clearing” breaks throughout the day.
30. Don’t waste energy in pointless debates. Everyone has an opinion, so what? Debating opinions is a colossal waste of time and energy, and it’s pointless. It’s not always important to make your point. Let it go.
31. Be optimistic. Optimism is a wonderful mindset. It focuses your energy on possibility. Your whole world looks brighter through the window of optimism.
32. Set aside time for yourself. It’s great to be productive, but we are not machines. To function at optimal levels you must be well grounded. Make sure you make enough time in your life for you and your loved ones.
33. Believe in yourself. You really are capable of amazing things. The only thing that can get between you and your dreams is self-doubt. Don’t let that happen! Believe in yourself, and surround yourself with others who believe in you.
34. Be yourself and forget about impressing others. No matter what you do, some people will like you and some won’t. Why not just be yourself so that those who do like you, like you for who you really are. Really, being yourself is impressive enough.
35. Accept responsibility for your life. This is the opposite of blaming others for your situation. When you accept responsibility, you assume complete control of your life and close the door on excuses. It’s a powerful state.
36. Strive to create value. The more value you create the more valuable you become to the world around you. Many people are only concerned about creating value for themselves, this is a selfish reality. Contribute the abundance around you and you will experience real abundance in return.
37. Be aware of your spiritual need. Whether you are willing to acknowledge it or not, we all have a spiritual need. Taking steps to fill that need will add a vital dimension to your life.

Maa Chandraghanta is the third Shakti of Maa Durga. Maa Chandraghanta is worshiped on the third day of Navrti Pooja. Those who worship Devi Chandraghanta get eternal strength and be blessed by Devi Maa to be happy through out one’s life.
Maa Chandraghanta - Third form of Maa Durga Worshiped on 3rd Navratri
Maa Chandraghanta is one Who establishes justice and wears crescent moon on Her head. Because of this bell shaped mark of moon which is present on the fore head of Maa Chandraghanta, Maa is known as Chandraghanta. The colour of her body is golden, she rides on lion who descrides “dharma”, possesses ten hands and three eyes, eight of Her hands display weapons while the remaining two are respectively in the mudras of gestures of boon giving and stopping harm. Devi Maa is posed as to be ready for war. “Chandra Ghanta” meaning supreme bliss and knowledge, showering peace and serenity, like cool breeze in a moonlit night. By her blessings all the hindrances coming in way of a person are removed. Her pleasant looks clears all sorrows and sadness of her devotees. Her roaring voice alerts and makes the Demons to tremble.
In Durga Pooja the third day of Navratri is very important in Navaratri. This day the mind of the sadhak enters Manipura Cakra. At this stage by the grace of Maa Chandraghanta he becomes capable of seeing unearthly and divine things. He smells the divine fragrance and many types of divine sound become audible to him. On this day and in this stage of discipline the sadhak is required to be most careful.
By the grace of Mother Chandraghanta all sins of the sadhak (striver) are burnt up and obstacles removed. Her worship is instantly fruitful. She is always in a gesture as if ready to proceed for the battlefield and thus she removes the difficulties of devotees very promptly. Her vehicle is lion and so her worshiper becomes valorous and fearless like a lion. The sound of her bell always protects her devotees from evil spirits. As soon as the sadhak invokes her, her bell immediately becomes active and starts ringing to protect the devotee under her shelter.
Maa Chandraghanta is the third Shakti of Maa Durga. Maa Chandraghanta is worshiped on the third day of Navrti Pooja. Those who worship Devi Chandraghanta get eternal strength and be blessed by Devi Maa to be happy through out one’s life.

31 Days : Idea To bring Miracle
“It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently."
Have you ever committed to doing something for thirty days and then reverted back to your old habits? I know I have, and I’m guessing many others have too!
My challenge to you is to decide what actions you are willing to weave into your life on Day 31 and after to pursue goals that are meaningful. This is when the magic happens. The changes don’t have to be drastic, just consistent.
Short-term changes get you in the game. Long-term shifts elevate the playing field. You have to decide where you want to play.
This idea of making a change came up during a recent coaching conversation with a client. He shared that he wanted to get back in shape and planned to work out everyday for thirty days and hire a trainer with the hopes of losing ten pounds (you can substitute working out for anything you want to shift in your life).
It always starts with an intention—and I like this one, as getting in shape aligned with the client’s value of healthy living. Your intentions and actions are much more powerful when they align with your values.
The question is what happens on day thirty-one, and thirty-two, and thirty-three, and so on? Do I think someone can work out everyday for thirty days or achieve any other short-term target? YES! Does the research suggest that the majority of people resume their old patterns once they hit an interim target? YES!
The challenge is maintaining the results you want after the thirty days or initial time frame is over. Then what happens when the trainer is gone?
My client and I focused on why he wanted to lose the weight, how that would make him feel, and what having more energy would allow him to do in his life (i.e. play with his kids on the weekend and be involved in their lives). The point is, my client wasn’t committing to working out just for thirty days but rather committing to a way of life and taking care of himself. That’s a very different intention.
He wanted to use the thirty-day period to jumpstart the project but realized that working out everyday wasn’t a viable strategy given his heavy travel schedule. Since he was only currently working out one to two days, and sporadically at that, he revised the goal to work out at least three days a week (anything more was a bonus and helped to build his confidence). This small shift helped him look forward to working out rather than seeing it as a chore and stressful. Once he successfully completed the month of three workouts per week (and lost five pounds), he built confidence, had more energy, and believed that he could keep going.
Being your best self is a lifestyle issue (a.k.a. Living in YOUR Top 1%) rather than a one-off fad. For example, if you practice a specific religion or being a vegetarian, that’s how you live everyday as opposed to just the days it’s convenient. The challenge for all of us who want real change becomes creating a sustainable set of rituals that we are willing to honor and put into practice consistently.

Life is one big party
Osho.... A person who changed definition of being spiritual. One who said that "Even a making a cup of tea can be joyful if it made being conscious.
Most of us live a programmed life & follow our basic instinct which make us automotive. We are in this global world surrounded from all social media keep our self updated by bit of every second. Monday to Friday live a busy scheduled life face many ups and downs. In this between we all try to find minutes for celebration by doing favourite thing either drinking musicing and many more
but
Is that bring celebration...
Why we do not feel celebrated doing every job. .. Osho said that people are living almost in sleep; Otherwise every fabric every cloth has its own beauty, its own feel, if you are sensitive then the clothing will not just to cover your body; then it is something expressing your individuality, Something expressing your taste your culture, and your being.
Everything that you do should be expressive of you ; Its should have your signature on it. Then life become a conscious celebration beyond enlightenment.
Tea Ceremony
The tea is prepared in a special samovar which makes beautiful sounds, a music of its own. And it is part of the tea ceremony that everybody should listen first to the music of the tea. So everybody is silent, listening...birds chirping outside in the garden, and the samovar and the tea is creating its own song. A peace surrounds it....
When the tea is ready and it is poured into everybody’s cup, you are not just to drink it the way people are doing everywhere. First, you will smell the aroma of the tea. You will sip the tea as if it has come from the beyond, you will take time - there is no hurry. Somebody may start playing on the flute or on the sitar.
An ordinary thing - just tea - and they have made it a beautiful religious festival, and everybody comes out of it nourished, fresh, feeling younger, feeling juicier. And what can be done with tea can be done with everything - with your clothes, with your food.
Time To Wake Up
People are living almost in sleep; otherwise, every fabric, every cloth has its own beauty, its own feel. If you are sensitive, then the clothing is not just to cover your body; then it is something expressing your individuality, something expressing your taste, your culture, and your being.
Everything that you do should be expressive of you; it should have your signature on it. Then life becomes a continuous celebration.
All cultures set aside days for celebration to break the mono-tony, so you’re not lost in sadness
True celebration should come from your life, in your life, not according to a religious calendar
Everything you do should be expressive of you; then life will become an ongoing celebration
